The New Zealand Golf Course Superintendents Association and John Deere Australasia seek to recognise a superintendent for achieving excellence in golf course management over the last two years. A Golf Course Superintendent who has achieved a high standard of golf course presentation by improvements on their golf course through changed maintenance and management techniques, new innovations or construction over the past two years.

Nominees for the NZGCSA Excellence Award must be a current NZGCSA member and have been a member for two years concurrently.

Selection Criteria

The nominee must fill out a nomination form, click here to download the NZGCSA Excellence Award nomination form and then provide a dossier demonstrating how the nominee has displayed excellence in golf course management.

Please make sure the following key judging points are covered.

  •  Description of objectives prior to implementing changes.
  •  Description of the golf course prior to implementing changes.
  •  Description of the changed maintenance techniques, new innovations or construction.
  •  Description of outcomes for the course upon completion of works.
  •  Extent of knowledge of Turfgrass management techniques.
  •  Commitment to Excellence.
  •  A description of how the applicant will use the Education Grant if selected.

 John Deere Excellence in Golf Course Management Education Grant

The applicant can choose how to use the $5,000.00 education grant for developing their knowledge to indicate a strong desire to remain within the industry.

Examples of how the Education Grant can be used.

  •  Regional, National or International Conferences.
  •  National Certificate in Sports Turf or Business Management.
  •  National Diplomas.
  •  Internship locally or abroad.
  •  Study Tours.
  •  Working experiences at the New Zealand Open, Australia Open or the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run.
