This award is presented every two years and is designed to recognise achievements related to golf course maintenance by a New Zealand Golf Course Superintendent. Once again this year the calibre of the applicants was of the highest standard and in the words of one of the judges& “If the calibre of the applicants is anything to go by then the future of the Turf industry in New Zealand is in very safe hands”.
The winner of the 2007 Fellowship Award is Leo Barber of Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club. The Award is presented by Rene Lubbers of John Deere.
Leo is a Superintendent that is not only going places but has already been places. Noticeable career achievements include,
1. 3rd place in the 1995 Trainee of the Year 2. Working at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club 3. Being part of the team to host the 1999 Presidents Cup at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club 4. Course Superintendent at Mount Maunganui Golf Links Currently the Course Superintendent at Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club. 5. Currently President of the Wellington Golf Course Superintendents Association.
Since starting his career in the Turf Industry in 1992 Leo has proven that he has the drive and determination to make it to the top of this industry. We wish Leo all the best as he undertakes his term as the NZGCSA Fellowship Winner. |
