VECTOR. An agent that transmits a pathogen.

VERNATION. The arrangement of the youngest leaf in the bud shoot.

VERTICAL MOWING. A procedure used in thatch removal and lawn renovation. The blades of a vertical mower cut perpendicular to the turf surface. May also be called a "Verti-Cut", and "Power Rake".

VIABLE. A seed capable of germinating. Purity times germination equals the number of pure live seeds in that lot. 95% x 80% = 76% pure live seed.

VOLATILE. A liquid that changes to a gas when exposed to the air at ordinary temperature. The degree of volatility of a pesticide generally increases as the air temperature increases.
