Sportsfields Technician

An exciting opportunity exists for a qualified sports turf specialist that wants a change and new challenge. The Wellington City Council is looking for a qualified Sportsfield Technician who will assist with all aspects of maintenance of the sports fields, cricket blocks and surrounding areas. This exciting position will share responsibility at Karori Park, directly involved in delivering first class cricket pitches for the Wellington Firebirds, Wellington Blaze and National age grade tournaments.

You will:

·       have a National Certificate in Sports Turf Management (or relevant demonstrated experience)

·       be comfortable working autonomously and have high attention to detail

·       be a team player and have a positive attitude

·       have a full NZ driver's license with confident manual driving skills

·       engage with customers and stakeholders in a calm and positive manner

The Golf Construction Grow-In Manager must ensure that the MDFD project golf course construction and grow-in elements are delivered to expectations in terms of safety, cost, time and quality. The role requires a collaborative approach with the project management team, staff and various contractors and suppliers. The Golf Construction Grow-In Manager will report directly to Signal Management Senior Construction Manager.

The successful candidate will have the following;

·         Minimum five years' experience in golf course construction and maintenance

·         Strong attributes for leading and motivating staff

·         Essential to have widespread agronomy knowledge and skills

·         Proven experience with irrigation installation and programming, along with drainage expertise

·         Management experience with construction and maintenance of all golf course facets, including machinery and equipment

·         Excellent work ethic with a focus on detailed results

·         Advanced computer skills required for reporting

·         Full clean NZ Drivers Licence and First Aid Qualification

·         Capability to work outside standard working hours to suit the nature of this role

1st Year Sports Turf Management Trainee

North Shore Golf Club is a recognised 27-hole golfing facility situated on the North Shore in Albany, Auckland. The club is currently going through a transformation relating to new fairway surfaces and completion of our bunker renovation program. To complement our successful team, we are seeking a suitable person to fill in a full-time position as a 1st year or 2nd year Sports Turf Trainee.

The successful applicant will be exposed to many maintenance and technical facets of the Sports Turf Industry such as, course grooming, grow-in, construction, drainage and irrigation installations through this period of change and beyond. It is a great time to be part of our growing team of professionals with much to do and much to learn.

The role is varied, but the training would include:

·       Learning to groom the course using a variety of machines on a variety of playing surfaces

·       Golf and course etiquette

·       Agronomic theory and practise

·       Gardening and horticultural maintenance

·       Turf machinery maintenance

·       Irrigation installation and maintenance including the use of the software operating system

·       Some aspects of construction

·       Management and administration protocols and systems

·       Health and Safety awareness and practise

·       Plus much much more

The ideal candidate would be keen to learn, hardworking, reliable and have some interest or experience in working outdoors in all conditions. Being a golfer would be advantageous although not essential.

You will work 40 hours per week between 6am (earliest start) and 2.30pm (latest finish), Monday to Friday and placed on a rotational weekend roster. Times may vary depending on the season, tournament preparation and renovations but this will be discussed during the interview process.

Training will be provided in the workplace where you will work towards your Certificate IV in Sports Turf Management.

-  Be confident operating specialised mowers and turf renovation equipment

-  Be skilled or have knowledge of all facets of fine turf management including fertility management, irrigation maintenance and operation, identifying turf pests and diseases, chemical selection and application

-  Bring with you some practical skills

-  A good head for all things mechanical

-  Hold a Growsafe and Approved Handler Certification

-  Have good communication skills, a great way with members and the ability to work unsupervised

-  Good understanding of and experience in health and safety legislation and systems.

This role will normally be based at Waahi Taakaro Golf Course, but will also assist with other sports ground duties at times.

-  Have or be close to (3rd year apprentice) completing relevant Turf Management qualifications - experience in the preparation and maintenance of golf courses would be highly preferable

-  Be confident operating specialised mowers and turf renovation equipment

-  Be skilled or have knowledge of all facets of fine turf management including fertility management, irrigation maintenance and operation, identifying turf pests and diseases, chemical selection and application

-  Bring with you some practical skills - a good head for all things mechanical, a clean drivers licence (HT preferred) and a Growsafe Certificate

-  Have good communication skills, a great way with customers and the ability to work unsupervised and a willingness to travel when required

Team Turf - Artificial Turf Installation Technician

Work with a small close knit team in a growing industry, that is, supplying and installing artificial turf!

The customer base is interesting and varied. Deal with schools that are installing a new multi sport synthetic surface, a hockey field, a playground surface, a cricket wicket or perhaps even a synthetic grass soccer or rugby field. Installing tennis court surfaces at tennis clubs and private homes, this role will keep you on your toes and provide plenty of different varied tasks from one day to the next!

The installation technician we are looking for will:

·      Be a team player

·      Work well with others in our installation team

·      Have excellent attention to detail

·      Enjoy working outdoors

·      Be happy to multi-task when required

·      Want to continually improve their skills

·      Preferably have some synthetic turf or carpet installation experience

·      Be willing to travel outside of Auckland on a project by project basis if required

The role includes:

·      Setting out measurements onsite

·      Rolling turf out and positioning in place

·      Gluing seams and joins

·      Cutting and gluing all line markings

·      Use of machinery to install sand and rubber infill

·      Laying foam underlay on some projects

·      Other associated tasks as required

You will need to be practically minded and a passion of sport would also be advantageous.
