Hogan Gully Golf Course Construction Project

Hogan Gully Farm is an exciting new golf course resort being by developed by Trojan Holdings Ltd near Queenstown, New Zealand. Situated on a 158-hectare site surrounded by a stunning mountain landscape, Hogan Gully Farm encompasses an 18-hole championship golf course that integrates visitor and residential accommodation, along with complementary facilities.

The resort's amenities will include a driving range, clubhouse with retail services, changing facilities, a café/bar, and restaurant. Furthermore, the project incorporates a substantial ecological restoration and enhancement initiative, spanning 39 hectares.

We have opportunities for Greenkeepers and Apprentice Greenkeepers to join our team. Initially you will be involved in course construction and will transition to maintenance when the course opens in late 2027. Accordingly, golf course construction experience would be advantageous.

Greenkeeper Position for Opotiki Golf Course

The Opotiki Golf Club is seeking a part- or full-time green keeper to lead and work with the Clubs 18-hole course volunteers to deliver high standard playing surfaces for members and visitors.

The position will have a vital role in all facets of turf management, course presentation, and equipment upkeep, and would suit either a developing green keeper wanting to take the next step, or a semi-retired person with turf management skills looking for an environment change.

This is a position that fosters independence, creativity and comradery in a relaxing small town, coastal environment with a host of outdoor pursuits nearby. The Club has all the essential equipment required for turf upkeep.

Salary will be commensurate with experience. Hours may be negotiable.

As a Parks and Gardens Maintenance Officer you'll be delivering a wide range of maintenance, upkeep, and improvement to Christchurch City's Parks and Cemeteries.

What you can expect in a day in the role:  

As a Team Leader, you’ll take ownership of daily operations across the golf course. Leading the maintenance of the golf course, gardens, and surroundings areas - including turf management, irrigation, mowing.  Working alongside the Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, you’ll lead a team in safe and effective chemical applications, pest and disease management, ensuring top-tier turf performance, water conservation and sustainability.

You’ll set high standards for presentation, precision, and safety while mentoring others to build their own technical capability. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who takes pride in world-class playing surfaces and wants to be part of establishing a landmark course from its first season.  

We’re looking for two Team Leaders: one who is skilled in Spraying and another who specialises in Irrigation, both leading our teams to excellence.

Your responsibilities will include, but not limited to:  

  • Drive daily golf course maintenance operations, allocate tasks, set clear standards, and lead by example. 

  • Provide feedback on turf health, quality of surfaces, course presentation and attention to detail to management. 

  • Mentor, support, and supervise crew members in the field. 

Spray Technician:

  • Oversee all spray programs and chemical applications across greens, tees, and fairways. 

  • Provide top-level expertise in safe chemical application (herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, fertilisers).

  • Lead integrated pest and disease management solutions.  

  • Prepare, calibrate, and operate spraying equipment to expert standards. 

  • Use GPS and variable-rate systems for precision application.  

  Irrigation Technician:

  • Expert operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all irrigation systems.

  • Develop, schedule, and monitor water distribution for maximum course health and efficiency.

  • Maintain and promptly repair all hydraulic and control systems.

  • Operate electrical systems for irrigation control.

  • Implement industry best-practice water conservation. 

What you’ll bring to the role:  

Given the expert and senior nature of theses roles, it is expected that the successful applicants will bring a strong track record in turf management, with the ability to lead a team, teach, and work to the highest agronomic standards. The successful candidate will bring the following:  

  • Engaging and positive team leadership and motivation  

  • Strong safety, compliance, and record-keeping skills  

  • Hands-on experience with technology-driven application practices  

  • Demonstrated in field experience working at a team leader level in a similar role

As well as the following qualifications:  

  • Cert III in Sports Turf Management (AHC31319)

  • Chemical User Accreditation (AHCCHM307 + AHCCHM304), Agricultural Chemical Skill Set (AHCSS00074) and State Chem Applicator Licence (Tasmania NRE)  or  Cert III in Irrigation Technology, or Cert III in Sports Turf Management (plus irrigation units)

Course Superintendent - Whangamata Golf Club

Whangamata Golf Club is located in one of New Zealand’s most popular beach towns and we are seeking applications for the role of Golf Course Superintendent. The Superintendent is responsible for the overall management and maintenance of the 18-hole Titoki Golf Course and the 9-hole Williamson Golf Course. This role ensures that both courses are maintained to the highest standards of playability, aesthetics, and environmental sustainability for our members and many visitors. The Superintendent will lead and manage a team of greenkeepers overseeing all aspects of training, health and safety, turfgrass management, landscaping, irrigation, pest control, and course setup. They will be responsible for the maintenance, repair and replacement of all golf course machinery and equipment, including mowers, tractors, and irrigation systems.

The successful candidate will have

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in green-keeping or related field, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or superintendent role with a proven track record of success.

  • Open communication style and proficient written, IT and documentation skills.

  • An excellent understanding of golf course and tournament set up. 

  • The NZ Certificate in Sports Turf Level 5 minimum or equivalent degree or diploma in Horticulture or Sports Turf Management. Hold a Growsafe Standard Certificate and Certified Handler Compliance Certificate.

  • Have a good understanding and knowledge of New Zealand Health & Safety practices and legislation and how it applies to Golf Course management. 

  • Have an excellent understanding of best practice in turf management in a golf course, including strong knowledge of turf grass species, cultivation techniques, and disease management. Able to write and implement an annual course maintenance and environmental plan.

  • Proficiency in using, maintaining and replacing relevant equipment and machinery.

  • Sound understanding of environmental regulations and best practices in sustainable turf management.

  • Experience in training, documenting and managing staff including supervision and training of apprentice green keepers including a 4098 qualification for as an apprenticeship assessor.

  • Be committed to ongoing learning and further development.

  • Certification from the New Zealand Golf Course Superintendents Association (NZGCSA) is an advantage.

What you’ll bring to the role: 

Given the expert and senior nature of this role, it is expected that the successful applicant will bring a strong track record in turf chemical management, with the ability to lead, teach, and work to the highest agronomic standards. The successful candidate will bring the following: 

  • A strong understanding of chemical application, pest/disease control, and spray equipment operation 

  • Engaging and positive team leadership and motivation 

  • Strong safety, compliance, and record-keeping skills 

  • Hands-on experience with technology-driven application practices 

  • Demonstrated in field experience working at a team leader level in a similar role. 

As well as the following qualifications and experience: 

  • Cert III in Sports Turf Management (AHC31319) 

  • Chemical User Accreditation (AHCCHM307 + AHCCHM304), Agricultural Chemical Skill Set (AHCSS00074) and State Chem Applicator Licence (Tasmania NRE)

What You’ll Be Doing

No two days are the same! You’ll be hands-on across a range of turf and course maintenance tasks including:

  • Mowing and maintaining all playing surfaces

  • Daily course setup – pin placements, tee setups, bunker presentation

  • Operating and maintaining turf machinery and equipment

  • Supporting course renovations and tournament preparations

About You

We’re looking for a genuine, reliable team player who enjoys being outdoors and takes pride in a job well done.

Formal qualifications aren’t essential – attitude, initiative, and a willingness to learn are what count most.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Experience in turf care, landscaping, or a related field

  • A good understanding of golf and course etiquette

  • Excellent health and physical fitness

  • Flexibility to work rostered weekends and extra during key events

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to presentation standards

  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Good communication skills and a positive attitude

  • Applicants must have NZ residency, a driver’s licence and reliable transport.
