Future Turf Managers Initiative - 2020
Applications are now open for the FTMI which is taking place in Melbourne Australia, Sunday 15 - Tuesday 17 March 2020.
Our selected NZGCSA members will join the AGCSA candidates for an intensive 2.5 days of seminars, talks and workshops designed to provide a opportunity to help develop the skills required to go further in our industry, covering subjects such as:
· Team management
· CV writing and interview techniques
· Career development
Sessions will be presented by keynote speakers, established and respected superintendents/course managers (mentors) and other industry professionals. Content and the agenda will be determined by the AGCSA and Jacobsen and can alter from year to year to keep pace with industry expectations. The FTMI also offers the chance to network and establish potential life time contacts and friendships with fellow green keepers from across the ditch.
If this sounds like something you are interested in, then you need to apply by filling out the on line application form under the 'Awards' tab or click here to go to form.
More information is on the Future Turf Managers Initiative page under the Awards tab, including what is included, the criteria and how to apply.
Applications are closing Wednesday 11 December 2019 - and please note there is a new application form and we are only accepting online applications this time.
Many thanks to Jacobsen for once again making this awesome initiative available to our members.
The Players Championship Volunteer Program - supported by John Deere
The NZGCSA along with John Deere are pleased to announce George Flynn (Pukekohe Golf Club) as the chosen New Zealand candidate to head to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida in the US to join the course management team at TPC Sawgrass. George will be helping prepare the famed Stadium Course for The Players Championship in March 2020, what an awesome opportunity!
A massive congratulations to you George!! Well done on being selected for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The selection process involved three steps - an expression of interest, a video application and then an interview. We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who applied and proceeded through each stage.
A big thank you to John Deere for their continued support of the NZGCSA and the New Zealand Golf and Sports Turf industry, and for providing this amazing opportunity to one lucky NZGCSA member.
George, we know you will represent the NZGCSA and John Deere with the highest integrity whilst at TPC Sawgrass and in so doing, do all of us proud and show the world what Kiwi greenkeepers are made of. All the best and enjoy every minute!
George Flynn with John Deere’s Tim Gammage.
Distinguished Service Award - Barry Shannon
At the recent and very excellent Fine Turf Seminar held it Taupo it was my privilege and pleasure to be able to present the NZGCSA Distinguished Service Award to Barry Shannon from the Belmont Golf Club in Wanganui.
The award recognised Barry’s many years of dedication and service he has provided to the turf industry as a whole both as a mentor and a peer. In earlier years he was heavily involved with the local Manawatu/Wanganui Association and was awarded Life Membership of this association in recognition of his efforts. The Distinguished Service Award also recognised the many years of tireless work that Barry’s gave in his role as a NZGCSA Moderator for our education system travelling the country and ensuring that work place assessors were completing their assessments of trainees’ on-job completions to the high standard that the industry demands.
The award was made at the Monday night dinner and was warmly received by the 200 plus attendees whose ovation clearly supported our choice. Barry was very humble in his acceptance of the award. It was very fitting that we were able to present it in front of his peers, colleagues and the many friends he has made over the decades.
So well done Baz, thoroughly deserved.
NZGCSA President’s Report - 2019
The NZGCSA AGM was held Tuesday 18 June. On the link below is the NZGCSA President Steve Hodson’s report.
We have added a Environmental section to the website and these pages are now ‘live’.
You can access the pages under the 'Environmental' tab (or click here) and they are fill of tips, resources, useful links to funding and ideas to contribute, get you thinking or help get you started towards a more sustainable environment for us and future generations.
Every little bit helps and this information is a basic handy guide to the environmental needs of clubs and how to access funding and resources to be part of the change and help with your environmental journey.
The pages are not the finished article as things change with new ideas and incentives happening all the time so they will be updated often with new information, ideas and resources.
